2 JOHN
AUTHENTICITY.--That these two Epistles were written by the same author appears from their similarity of tone, style, and sentiments. That John, the beloved disciple, was the author of the Second and Third Epistles, as of the First Epistle, appears from IRENÆUS...The Third Epistle is directed to Gaius or Caius; whether Gaius of Macedonia ( Acts 19:20 ( Romans 16:23 ; 1 Corinthians 1:14 decide. MILL believes Gaius, bishop of Pergamos [Apostolic Constitutions, 7.40], to be the person addressed in 3 John 1:1 (Jamieson)
1 From the Elder - To the chosen lady and to her children, whom I truly love. And I am not the only one, but all who know the truth love you,
The elder--In a familiar letter John gives himself a less authoritative designation than "apostle".
2 because the truth remains in us and will be with us forever.
3 May God the Father and The LORD(Yahweh) Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, give us grace, mercy, and peace; may they be ours in truth and love.
Only TWO make up the Divine Godhead!
4 I was so happy to find that some of your children live in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father[God]
5 And so I beg you, dear Lady: let us all love one another. This is not a new commandment I am writing you; it is the commandment which we have had from the beginning.
6 This love - That we live in obedience to God's commandments. This commandment, as you have all heard from the beginning, is that you must all live in love.
We must obey God's Commandments – The Torah-The Law... "Love is the fulfilling of the law" ( Romans 13:10 fulfilling of the law is the sure test of love. This is the commandment--Greek, "The commandment is this," namely, love, in which all God's other commandments are summed up.
7 Many deceivers have gone out over the world. They do not believe that Jesus Christ came to earth in a real body(in the flesh). Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Watch out, so that you do not lose the prize for which we have been working so hard.
9 Anyone who does not stay within the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever does stay with the doctrine has both the Father and the Son {The GODHEAD}.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;
This is the same of “Another Gospel” written by Paul! What Christianity is today is a false Gospel, “another gospel.”
11 For he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
12 I have so much more to tell you, but I would rather not do it with paper and ink; instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you personally, that our joy may be complete.
13 The children of your dear Sister send you their greetings.
